Natural Sculpture in the Cavern
Now labelled as one of the seven wonders of the Peak District, Poole’s Cavern is a 2-million-year-old natural limestone cavern near Buxton in the Peak District. In addition to stalactite and stalagmite formations, it was interesting to see a natural stone sculpture formed at the base of a river.

Butterfly House Visit
Our camera club visited Magic Wings Butterfly House at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, North Carolina. It is one of the largest butterfly houses on the entire East Coast and by far the biggest in North Carolina. Any visit here is sure to be an enchanted one spent gazing at the many species of butterflies, and even some animals.
A large butterfly sculpture near the garden at the entrance is appropriate. The 35-foot-tall see-through butterfly house is home to more than 50 different species of butterflies from all over the world.

Various stone sculptures of Ganesha were decorated daily at our resort in Gujarat, India,
Ganesha, a much-beloved and worshiped deity, is the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. He is also known as the God of wisdom, prosperity, and auspiciousness. A Ganesha statue can be hand-carved in many postures and forms, typically with four or eight arms, holding various symbolic objects.

Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal city west of downtown Los Angeles, California. Santa Monica Beach is fringed by Palisades Park, with views over the Pacific Ocean. Will be posting images from our recent trip to Santa Monica.
This 18′ high art deco sculpture “Santa Monica” by Eugene Morahan is located on the bluff at the foot of Wilshire Blvd. It is a statue of Saint Monica, for whom the city of Santa Monica was named. Apparently, Spanish explorers were reminded of the tears Saint Monica shed for her errant son while they were drinking from a refreshing spring in West Los Angeles. Because that particular day was St. Monica’s day on the religious calendar, they named the area “Santa Monica.”
