The views, at Winterthur Gardens in Delaware, in every direction are important to the whole. The paths are an integral part of the overall design, curving rather than straight, following the contours of the land, passing around trees and water, and drawing walkers into the garden.
Gardening was H. F. du Pont’s first love. He experimented with thousands of plants, refining the color combinations that are the essence of the Winterthur Garden in Delaware. Winterthur’s naturalistic garden is a masterpiece of color and design and is surrounded by nearly 1,000 acres of meadows, farmland, and waterways. We didn’t experience the blooming colors during our visit as the flowering season had ended.

Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library is an American estate and museum in Winterthur, Delaware. As of 2011, it houses one of the most important collections of Americana in the United States of America. It was the former home of Henry Francis du Pont (1880–1969), a renowned antiques collector and horticulturist.

Visitors to Winterthur Museum and Gardens experience a 175 room mansion and will be amazed by the nature and extent of its holdings.
