As the grand finale to the Iron Pour, artists poured hot iron into a pumpkin and the result was astonishing!

Images from the Catawba Valley Camera Club field trip to the Iron Pour at West North Carolina Sculpture Center, near Lenoir, North Carolina in October 2023.

Hot iron is radiating and ready to pour into the molds at Iron Pour.

The furnace for the Iron Pour is properly stoked and ready and hot iron overflows from the discharge pipe and falls on the ground.

While the Iron Pour into the molds is best viewed in the dark, a trial pour was conducted during the daylight.

The 2023 WNCSC Iron Light Iron Pour took place on the WNCSC grounds. Sculptors from around the United States and beyond participated in Iron Pour, a group iron casting residency and gathering. This year’s artists in residence and artist interns had a public demonstration of the iron casting process.
With a pre-pour briefing, the main task was lighting the furnace to melt the iron.

Our Catawba Valley Camera Club had a field trip to the Western North Carolina Sculpture Center and Park (WNCSC) to view the Fire In The Valley Halloween Iron Pour. We will be posting images from this event.
Located on the historic Patterson School grounds, the WNCSC consists of a free and public sculpture park that exhibits 40 works. Sculptures on display are constructed with cast iron, welded steel, stonework, woodwork, cast bronze, stainless steel, and found objects. Here are some sculptures.
