Visit to a Sculpture Park
Our Catawba Valley Camera Club had a field trip to the Western North Carolina Sculpture Center and Park (WNCSC) to view the Fire In The Valley Halloween Iron Pour. We will be posting images from this event.
Located on the historic Patterson School grounds, the WNCSC consists of a free and public sculpture park that exhibits 40 works. Sculptures on display are constructed with cast iron, welded steel, stonework, woodwork, cast bronze, stainless steel, and found objects. Here are some sculptures.
Euston Station Gates
On display at National Railway Museum, York, England are Station Gates, London & Birmingham Railway. Heavy wrought iron with ornamental locks bearing L & BR crest. These elaborate cast iron gates are from the Doric portico that formed the entrance to the original Euston station in London.
Yellowstone – Colorful Mud Formations
Best known for its stunning display of vivid color, Yellowstone National Park is an undoubted national treasure. The reds, yellows and browns of the mud in the images below are derived from oxidation states of the iron in the mud.
