Sculptures Outside the Museum

The Monolith of Tlaloc is a massive stone sculpture of the Aztec rain god, TlalocIt weighs 168 tons, stands 23 feet tall, and is carved from basalt. Discovered in the late 1800s near the town of Coatlinchan, it was moved to its current location in front of the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City in 1964.

Force Control Sculpture by Juan Carlos Canfield

Walking around the Polanco area in Mexico City, saw Force Control Sculpture with water feature.

This is a sculpture called Control de Fuerzas or Force Control and is situated in the Hotel zone of polanco Mexico, is a round about in one side there are some of the most important hotels and in other side is the residential area of polanco in Mexico City. The Sculpture was built by Juan Carlos Canfield and is on this position since October 1980.

Significant Monument

The Plaza de la Fundación (Foundation Plaza), located around the historic center of Mexico City, commemorates the legendary founding of Greater Tenochtitlán in 1325. The plaza’s best-known feature is the work of artist Carlos Marquina. The 1970 sculpture depicts the 1325 sighting of the eagle devouring the serpent on a cactus, representative of the imagery on the flag of Mexico.

Flight 5191 Memorial

The University of Kentucky Arboretum is home to a sculpture commemorating the Comair Flight 5191 crash victims. A 17-foot tall sculpture of 49 stylized silver bird figures sweeps heavenward in a rush of energy and movement: the number of birds corresponds to the 49 souls lost in the Flight 5191 tragedy.
