Climbing Up and Coming Down

Authorities closed the Pyramid of the Moon to climbers in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, and kept it closed while INAH completed work to conserve the structure. Climbing the pyramid was permitted on May 19, 2025, following conservation and improvement work aimed at ensuring visitor safety.

Access is only permitted to the top of the first section, which consists of five platforms and 47 steps. The upper levels remain closed to preserve the physical integrity of the monument.

Walking to the Pyramid of the Moon

The Pyramid of the Moon is the second-largest pyramid in Teotihuacan, after the Pyramid of the Sun, and is located near Mexico City. It is found in the western part of the ancient city of Teotihuacan and mimics the contours of the mountain Cerro Gordo, just north of the site.

Here are tourists walking towards the pyramid to climb up the stairs.

Staircase to the Temple

We end our series on Stairs with an image of stairs leading the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Atlanta, Georgia – a traditional Hindu mandir, or place of worship, inaugurated on August 26, 2007. This temple is a masterpiece of exquisite Indian design and workmanship.

Water Staircase

Aysgarth Falls are a triple flight of waterfalls, surrounded by woodland and farmland, carved out by the River Ure over an almost one-mile stretch on its descent to mid-Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales of England, near the village of Aysgarth. One could see the natural formation of “stairs” for water to flow through the river.

Symmetry of Stairs

There is a lot of symmetry in the stairs of the State of Virginia Capitol building in Richmond adding character and class of Palladian architecture. Palladian architecture is a European architectural style derived from the work of the Venetian architect Andrea Palladio. What is today recognized as Palladian architecture evolved from his concepts of symmetry, perspective and the principles of formal classical architecture from ancient Greek and Roman traditions.

Stairs

Similar to Reptiles one, our Catawba Valley Camera Club is having a competition on “Stairs.” Since I can’t submit images for this competition, I have searched in my library of photos and will be posting related images.

Here is an image of stairs of a lighthouse in Outer Banks, North Carolina taking the photo of symmetrical stairs from the top looking down. The ordered layout the bricks adds to the image.
