There are actually two waterfalls here, near Brevard, each on a separate creek. At the overlook, stand at the top of Connestee Falls on Carson Creek. Across the gorge, Batson Creek Falls cascades down to meet Connestee. The now-joined creeks squeeze through a cleft known as Silver Slip, but can’t see it from the upper overlook. Can see Batson Creek Falls pretty well from the overlook, but not Connestee.

Elk Sculpture
At the corner of the Courthouse lawn, this steel sculpture by Aaron Alderman is dramatic in Brevard. Like red wolves, elk were once typical in the Southeast, but they had disappeared by the 1800s. A herd of elk was reintroduced to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 2001.

Mantiques in Brevard
MANtiques is a shop in Brevard – but not just any shop. It’s a combination museum, treasure chest, and scavenger hunt all rolled into a rustic sanctuary for memorabilia, antiques, furniture, and other fine collectibles.
While the store has a masculine feel, those of the female persuasion will also find Mantiques oddly alluring, not so much “manly” but very much in keeping with traditional and authentic mountain/lodge décor.
Nutcracker as Guards
The original store, located in beautiful downtown Brevard, North Carolina, is over 6,000 square feet of fun and hands-on excitement. There is a reason that O.P. Taylor’s continues to be the #1 toy store in the South.
Nutcracers guard the store entrance.
