A sunburst through the slats in a building is strikingly highlighted in the monochrome version. An optical phenomenon called diffraction causes the starburst effect; as light passes through a small aperture, it is diffracted (or spread out) across the lens’ aperture blades.

Black and White Buildings in Chester
Chester, England is famous for its black and white buildings including the Rows, medieval two-tier buildings above street level with covered walkways which today house many of Chester’s shopping galleries. The Black-and-White Revival was an architectural movement in the mid-19th century that re-used the vernacular elements of the past, such as painted black timber framing with panels in between painted white, referring to Tudor style.

Historic Homes in Pacific Heights
The main attractions of Pacific Heights, San Francisco, are the stunning mansions and historic buildings. Pacific Heights was first developed as a neighborhood in the 1870s with a series of small Victorian homes. Many of these were lost during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and were later replaced with period homes. Even today, the neighborhood is characterized by its wealth of Victorian-style architecture.
Here are two historic homes that look similar but have different porch entrances.
