A typical road through Yorkshire Dales, England, surrounded by sheep farms with stone walls.

Greenery, water, sheep and cattle grazing in rural Yorkshire Dales, England.

Crossing the Yorkshire Dales and North Pennines, the Settle to Carlisle Railway was the last great mainline railway to be built in the UK. On its journey north the line passes over the famous Ribblehead Viaduct, one of Britain’s finest man made structures. It was lucky to capture a train crossing the viaduct.

The Ribblehead Viaduct carries the Settle–Carlisle Railway across Batty Moss in the valley of the River Ribble at Ribblehead, in the Yorkshire Dales, England. It is one of the most famous feats of Victorian engineering along the stunning Settle to Carlisle railway line and a well-known photo stop for many visitors.

Although cloudy, one can see the varied beauty of the Yorkshire Dales landscape in England.

The Yorkshire Dales, England is home to outstanding scenery, great castles, abbeys and a breathtakingly peaceful atmosphere. Each of the Yorkshire Dales has a different character. The Southern Dales are less remote, yet still wildly beautiful. The Northern Dales provide wild heather moorland and valleys full of hay meadows, dry stone walls and barns. And in the West, the pretty villages and small towns each have their own charm.

A couple relaxes on the bank of River Ure and enjoys the water flowing over Upper Asygarth Falls, Yorkshire Dales, England.

Aysgarth Falls are a triple flight of waterfalls, surrounded by woodland and farmland, carved out by the River Ure over an almost one-mile stretch on its descent to mid-Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales of England, near the village of Aysgarth. A rustic stone bridge over River Ure is reminiscent of olden days. We will post over the coming days various views of these falls.
