The Autolawn Party is an outdoor celebration of the road’s number one traveler – the automobile. The celebration is centered around a European classic car show for the automotive enthusiast. The Autolawn European Classic Car Show is unique for its size and scale in having only 80 entrants. The intention is to provide a wide range of high-quality, original vehicles in an intimate yet informal setting. Will post a few unique images from the show.

Renovated Union Square in Downtown Hickory is filled with a variety of unique retail shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues, all in a park-like setting in the heart of Hickory. Here is a reflection of Union Square from the windows of the old Railroad Station, now converted to a restaurant.

Considered by the North Carolina Department of Archives and History to possess the “finest Queen Anne interior styling in the entire state,” the Harper House of Hickory also has a restored landscape, including period gardens. Several notable families have occupied the Harper House. The Harper Family was the last of seven families to occupy the Shuler-Harper House, as some locals still refer to it.

The architecture of Corinth Reformed Church, Hickory, North Carolina is reminiscent of a fine European cathedral. The exterior of the building is of gray Georgia granite with Indiana limestone trim. The spire is of extruded and structural aluminum rising 164 ft. 6 in. from the terrace floor at the entrance. The belfry below the spire is built up of carved and molded limestone tracery, giving a lacy and ethereal feeling to the church tower. The main entrance is of limestone having carvings similar to those found on French Gothic churches.

The bridge from Alexander County over Lake Hickory on Hwy 127 leads to Hickory in Catawba County, North Carolina. We will post this week some images of interesting sites from Catawba and adjoining Alexander counties.

Winding its way from the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina to central South Carolina, the Catawba-Wateree River Basin contains eleven reservoirs, fourteen dams, and supplies roughly two million people with drinking water.
