Redwood National and State Parks are a string of protected forests, beaches and grasslands along Northern California’s coast. The trees in California that people call “redwoods” are actually two distinct species – giant sequoias and coastal redwoods, both of them best described in superlatives like tallest, biggest, most massive, or magnificent.

Bench View – Swan Lake Maine

Swan Lake is the second largest lake in Waldo County, Maine. Originally known as Goose Pond, during the 19th century it came increasingly to be referred to as Swan Lake, after the town of Swanville, Maine, which before incorporation had been known as the Plantation of Swan.

Bench View – Lake James, North Carolina

Lake James is a large reservoir in the mountains of Western North Carolina. It is named for tobacco tycoon and benefactor of Duke University, James Buchanan Duke. The lake, with surface elevation of 1200 ft, lies behind a series of four earthen dams.

Since opening in 1977, Morikami has been a center for Japanese arts and culture in Delray Beach, Florida.

The 16 acres that surround Morikami’s two museum buildings include expansive Japanese gardens with strolling paths, resting areas, world-class bonsai collection and lakes teeming with koi and other wildlife. The wider 200-acre park features nature trails, pine forests and picnic areas.
