The unincorporated Lake Junaluska community in North Carolina is centered around a beautiful 200-acre namesake lake and surrounded by 1,200 acres of rolling hills and valleys. The high peaks and stunning natural beauty of the area offers numerous photographic opportunities of landscapes.

The 14th-century fortress Bolton Castle in Yorkshire, England is, incredibly, still owned by the barons Bolton, who built the castle. It has never been sold and has always been inherited by descendants of the Scrope family, who were powerful and enjoyed roles at the royal court over several generations. Sitting on top of a hill, it’s still a perfect storybook castle – with restored medieval gardens offering a spectacular view.
The Peak District and Derbyshire in England are full of breathtaking and beautiful wonders with some of the most popular mountains and valleys. The greenery covered hills make for a pleasant ride through the valley.
The Peak District (also called The Peak) is a picturesque upland area of the East Midlands and Yorkshire regions of England. Established as a national park in 1951, the Peak District is made up of two distinct terrains: ‘Dark Peak’, with untamed moors and windswept hills; and ‘White Peak’, a patchwork of sheep-grazed fields and quaint villages. Despite its name, the park has no mountains – but it does have hidden depths, in the form of spectacular caves.
Here are examples of pleasing landscapes with grazing sheep – a common sight while driving through Peak District.
It was interesting see beehives clinging to the rocks in Bera, Rajasthan. The bees make hives on the underside of rock ledges to protect honey from sloth bears that roam the hills.

Due to the rocky terrain at Bera, Rajasthan, safari vehicles could not get close to the leopards. As a a high focal length lens was not available, here is one leopard barely visible sitting on a rocky ledge way up on a hill.
Costa Rica’s capital, San José, is in the Central Valley. It has world-class museums, parks, hotels, theaters, and historic buildings. It’s an extensive plain, guarded by majestic volcanoes and green hills, honoring the natural richness that exists throughout the national territory. Striking clouds enhance the landscape surrounding San José.
The crowning glory of Golconda Fort is the Durbar Hall, which stands atop a hill overlooking the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It is approached by a thousand-step stairway with a great view of the cities below – including (on a clear day) the famous Charminar itself.

Tarn Hows is one of the many gems in the English Lake District. There are a lot of ‘tarns’ and ‘hows’ in that part of the world: tjörn is an Old Norse word meaning ‘small mountain lake’ and haugr is from the Old Norse for hill or mound.
