Periwinkle
Periwinkle is also called vinca or myrtle. Of the 12 species of periwinkle, two are popular groundcovers. All species have opposite leaves and single flowers.

Back of Sunflowers
The back of a sunflower is interesting. The stem is the long, narrow part and is referred to as a peduncle for composite (although it looks like a single flower, a composite flower is made up of many smaller flowers, sometimes called florets) flowers. The green, hairy structures that resemble leaves are called phyllaries.

The desert rose bonsai (Adenium obesum) is known for its bright, colorful blooms in the springtime. They do have dark green glossy leaves and do look very good when not in bloom.

The Hawthorn is a plant that grows like a shrub in most cases and it takes many years to develop thick trunks. For Bonsai it has some good characteristics: small leaves, white flowers, red berries, and a nice bark on old trees.

Privet Bonsai is a great bonsai tree with a big fat trunk. Privet is a genus of deciduous and evergreen shrubs and small trees that are native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa. They are widely cultivated for ornamental purposes and are known for their attractive glossy leaves and small white or creamy white flowers that bloom in the summer.

Disanthus cercidifolius is a medium-sized deciduous shrub growing to 3 m (10 ft) tall and wide. It is noted for its heart-shaped leaves which turn to shades of red, purple and yellow in autumn, but saw them in April at J C Raulston Arboretum.

The fast-growing, thick, fuzzy, upright stems of Tetrapanax papyrifera are clothed with large, equally fuzzy, green castor bean-like leaves emerging from an underground rhizome. Hosta is a genus of plants commonly known as hostas, plantain lilies and occasionally by the Japanese name gibōshi. Brother Stefan offers spectacular large variegated hosta with thick corrugated leaves that offer good slug resistance. White flowers in summer. Full shade to filtered sun.
