At the heart of the Sequoia National Park, in the shade of towering sequoias and redwood groves, the Giant Forest is home to half of the Earth’s largest and longest-living trees. It is difficult to appreciate the size of the giant sequoias because neighboring trees are so large. The largest of the sequoias are as tall as an average 26-story building, and their diameters at the base exceed the width of many city streets. As they continue to grow, they produce about 40 cubic feet of wood each year, approximately equal to the volume of a 50-foot-tall tree one foot in diameter.
I love these giant trees! We are planning a trip up north later in the year to the AVenue of the Giants I think it’s called.
I believe Avenue of the Giants is for the Redwoods in Northern California. There is Generals Highway in Sequoia National Parl.
Yeah I’ve been up near there as we have a house near Sequoia. We’re going to Avenue of the Giants later this year. I can’t wait! I love redwoods!
Great texture!
Yes Robyn. It almost feels like lightweight cork.
I would love to see one of these magnificent trees in person. Truly an awesome picture.
The photo doesn’t do enough justice to the height and majesty of these unique trees in their forest. You will have a great experience in person.
