The central part, or Patio de los Pilares (Courtyard of the Pillars), of the Quetzalpapálotl Palace, features large, finely carved columns at Teotihuacan, northeast of Mexico City.

Stalagnate results when stalactites and stalagmites meet or when stalactites reach the floor of the cave. If the two should grow together, the speleothem is called a “column.” Here is a specimen at Poole’s Cavern, Derbyshire in England.
This extended line of 183 ceramic columns, created by Daniel Johnston, plays against the topography of the landscape. Ranging in height from several inches to several feet, the tops of the pillars form a level line to highlight the dips and rises of the rolling hillside at North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh.
