The first photo shows an almost desolate scene; the second seems more inviting — I suppose it’s the redness of the landscape. Amazing what a bit of color can do.

good luck on your journey. I see you’re coming to my state. If you’re going from TX to FL I expect you’re taking I-10 so I’d like to suggest a quick detour, only a few minutes to Falling Waters State Park in Florida. The only natural waterfall in the state.
